TomTom v1.10 and tethering help needed

I have a Nexus 7, without a mobile data facilty, running TomTom 1.10 which is tethered to my mobile phone and am finding it impossible to get the TomTom app to connect to my phones data connection. Can anyone tell me if it’s possible to use my phones data connection while tethered and, if so, how to achieve it? After much frustration I don’t have much hair left to pull out now.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
