Hello Friends,
for a few last days I was stuck with the problem of failed update process which is known to many users who want to upgrade their RT6's.
The problem with this particular fail occurs while upgrading 2.86.1.b from CD; just after the moment when preparing update reaches 100% and system throws out CD.
Then it is possibility that You can get a message like this: "ERROR DURING FLASHER LOADING..." and if You are not fast enough to catch, system will draw in the CD and whole operation will be repeated. If the CD is catched, blank black screen appears, CD eject mechanism is activating for a one second at about15sec. interval.
THIS SITUATION MEANS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH filesystem mode on CD (!!!NOT WITH THE UNIT!!!), so keep the faith, find an old pc with winXP and burn ISO or files on CD with possibly lowest (lower than 10x) speed and ABSOLUTELY "Joliet" mode (no ISO/Joliet - just only Joliet), put back the new burnt CD at the system and this time RT6 updates correctly.
Second issue You can be exposed is similar to first one, but with USB Stick as a upgrade files source.
After first communicate of the update process "CRC Media checking..." it is possibility that message "CRC ERROR on media..." will appear.
That is because USB Stick filesystem is incorrect or has a hidden files on it. In my case, I tried to get rid of the problem for a few days working on a PC with windows 10. Win7/8/10 has a indexing script that puts to stick a HIDDEN folder just after formatting.
The most secure way to get rid with this issue is to format the stick in FAT32 and copy the files ONLY ON an old one PC with XP onboard. This method guarantees that update process will bebug free.
For a 2.86.B.1 a used a link from https://www.drive2.com/l/473411774842929316/ named USB RT6 SW 2.86 .
I hope, that helps someone.
Regards
