Last year (2016), I bought two Portable SSDs from SanDisk (240GB and 480GB).
At first I was really annoyed because Windows 7 x64 recognized the 240GB as 'Removable Disk' and the 480GB as 'Local Disk'. I needed both to be recognized as 'Local Disk'. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it doesn't matter.
But there is a plus side; your Garmin Device, SD cards and microSD cards are also recognized as 'Removable Disk'. This means:
If you want to backup all you *.img files in a SSD and be able to mount all the maps on BaseCamp the solution is a SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable SSD (240GB)***
***If you have more than 240GB in maps, not my problem :D
Code:

Code:
SSD 240
Type: Local Disk
File System: exFAT
Capacity: 240,047,357,952 bytes
SSD 480
Type: Removable Disk
File System: exFAT
Capacity: 480,085,278,720 bytes

- BaseCamp will recognize all the files (gpx, db, etc.) in your Portable SSD.
- If you copy the GarminDevice.xml file into SSD/Garmin folder, you will have a fake Garmin Device too.
