Nuvi 1300 firmware update problem

I originally posted this at the end (page 6) of the pinned nuvi firmware + routes thread above, but since I got no replies I thought I'd repost a bit more more visibly here.

I have a nuvi 1300 MTK (HW 1104). It seems from what I read in post #22 that simply copying the proper patched .gcd file to /Garmin/gupdate.gcd on an empty SD card in the nuvi and restarting will flash the firmware to a version with "routes" enabled. I understand that this is more risky that using the updater.exe application and the .rgn file found in post #1 and #29. However, I'm a Linux user and of course I can't natively run any of the utilities you folks have developed for updating and modifying Garmin firmware. So, could someone please run the 110401000630.rgn file through the RGN tool and post the equivalent .gcd file so I can download it? I'd really appreciate it. I know I could use Wine, or Crossover, or maybe even mono, or I could load Win7 into a virtualbox machine, or I could even start from scratch and load windows in its own partition followed by loading linux to its own partition and using the combination of the windows bootloader and grub to control startup, but the thought of the trouble I'd have to go through using any of these methods to accomplish the simple conversion of one file makes these solutions pretty unappealing. Thanks again.

Since posting the above I tried the Win7 virtual machine route. I tried the install in pre-boot mode and it seemed at first to be working, but eventually updater.exe error-ed out without updating the firmware. On the other hand, before trying updater.exe, I had loaded the standard 630 .gcd to the /Garmin on the SD card (renamed as gupdate.gcd) and a reboot installed the updated firmware. (Before the update the firmware version was 5.30.) I think the problem lies in trying to install the +routes firmware with updater.exe and the .rgn file through the virtual machine. If I had a patched .gcd file I think I could get this to work. Thanks for any help anyone may be able to provide.
