Touareg 09.2005 looking for maps update

Hello there,

I would like to help a friend to update his Touareg (V6 - 09.2005) navigation's maps and I want to be sure to get the right DVD and not to brick the unit (don't know if it's possible with a simple maps update).. I've done some searches before writing this post so i found this :

The first link seems to be what i need but not sure, the second one seems to be for Touareg > 11.2005 so it's not the good one right ?

An other question, I've read those posts and they were comments about updating firmware of the unit (I guess?), is it necessary ?
