Loading Old Bluechart Maps in a New Garmin

Hi all,

I am very new to the forum, but not so new to unlocking Garmin maps, etc. I have owned a Garmin GPSMap 76csx for a few years, and have successfully used a map unlocker tool to load Garmin BlueChart Pacific 2008.5 into a few Garmin handhelds over the years, including a couple of the newer marine models.

I recently got a great deal on GPSMAP 526S, and figured I could load the same maps on it. (Note, where I am, the internet runs at about 1990's dial-up speed. It is impossible to download large map files as posted on this forum, so am trying to "make do" with what I have).

I had no trouble getting the unit id, using MapSource (and the Keygen program I've been using all along) to unlock the BlueChart Pacific 2008.5 map set for my new unit, and transfer a mapset to the SD card.

But my 526S, when I start it up with the newly loaded SD card, says "Map Format is Not Supported".

I can see when the unit starts up, that it recognizes the card in the slot, and reads the custom map name I gave the subset of maps (W Pac and SE Asia) out of the inside of the img file... so it IS reading the gmapsupp.img file that's there.

The only 2 files in the Garmin folder (originally created by putting a blank SD card into the unit and powering it up), are this gmapsupp.img file and GarminDevice.xml file.

Here's whats in the GarminDevice.xml file:

Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<Device xmlns="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevice/v2 http://www.garmin.com/xmlschemas/GarminDevicev2.xsd">

</Device>

My unit is currently at Rev 4.40--that's how it came. I previously downloaded an update that would update it to 4.60, but haven't tried to update yet.

Are the old format Bluechart maps just NOT supported on my device? Is this just a hopeless exercise? Would updating to 4.60 help? Is there a tool that might be smaller than an 800Mb Vision mapset that I might download to re-format the maps I have?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Sherry
