I purchased my Kenwood nav unit as an open box return from Best Buy last Saturday. I figured, why not? I got it cheap enough, grabbed a wiring harness and a mounting kit for my '07 F150 and went to town soldering wires.
Sunday involved installation and everything works perfectly. Well, everything except for the nav. It doesn't have any maps installed on it. Now, I'm fairly savvy with a computer (I run my own computer repair business) and don't usually have problems downloading files, extracting, and installing them.
First step was Garmin Express. After putting the SD into the nav unit (16 Gb SanDisk CL4 SDHC after a fresh format) my nav unit said that files were copied onto the SD. I put it into my laptop and, lo and behold, there's a Garmin folder there with a .xml file inside. Nothing else. I connected with both an SD adapter as well as an SD reader so I know the card works.
I tried using Garmin Express to update the files and it won't let me connect to the servers. And for some reason, it's detecting my unit as "Kenwood 2015" and showing me a picture of a watch.
So perusing the various Kenwood/Garmin threads here, I'm not able to find much on the DNX572BH. I did review the stickied thread on the DNX9990HD however, the files aren't linking correctly for me. I'm hoping someone with more experience can point me in the right direction to get the correct files installed on my SD and get the nav up and running. Considering nav is really the only reason I purchased this unit, it would be lovely if I could get it working. Oh, and Garmin customer service is about as useful as changing a light bulb with a hammer.
I don't get it. My unit's registered with Garmin. The SD works. I've followed the instructions. Am I doing something wrong or might there be a problem with the head unit?
